Marko Smiljanić is an academic classical guitarist who, after studying at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana and the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, stepped outside the realms of classical music. Exploring other genres, trying not only to perform but also to compose, arrange and produce his own music resulted in a new sound and style of playing. The album “Things People Say” is a direct product of these experiments, trying to create a not yet heard sonic environment for a nylon string guitar.

Marko Smiljanić Trio is an instrumental project with original music, combining influences of flamenco, jazz and ethno music. The compositions are mainly based on flamenco guitar, supported by Marco Cali (ITA) on drums and Dejan Hudoklin (SLO) on bass guitar. The aim of the project is to explore different musical genres offered by the classical/flamenco guitar, at the same time maintaining a listenable musical style based on simple, listenable melodics. The project performs songs from the album “Things People Say”, as well as some new compositions specifically composed for the trio setup.
